A large Christmas tree stands in the middle of Sycamore and Broadway streets during each Christmas season beginning on Thanksgiving. A lavish lighting display was added more than 40 years ago to round out one of the largest Christmas displays in the area.

School children often take part by making decorations for the tree and then walking from school to place them on the tree. Since they don't have a ladder, the decorations only cover the lower branches.

 

A local musician, Gary McKnight, has written a song about this custom: "There's a Christmas Tree on Main Street in My Hometown".
