About this Exploration:

Open Saturday-Thursday 6 a.m.-2 p.m.

In the new world of fast food and chain store eateries, it's refreshing to find a restaurant that can boast of being run by the same family in a continuous business since 1948, a total of 61 years!  Plenty of time to perfect some of Stafford area's favorite meals.

After settling into your seat at the Curtis Cafe, it is difficult at first to focus on the menu because the eye is drawn to the hundreds of assembled jigsaw puzzles competing for every available space on the walls.  The puzzle collection first got its start when Musetta Curtis, the past owner, developed eye problems.  She was advised that it would be good therapy for her eyes to do some type of detailed work to force her eyes to focus up close.  She began assembling jigsaw puzzles.  Soon everyone was sending her jigsaw puzzles and restaurant customers used to help out.  There is even a puzzle on the wall sent to Musetta from Senator Bob Dole along with a letter.  Each completed puzzle was placed on the walls of both rooms in the cafe creating a must-see, one-of-a-kind display.

Many local folks and knowledgeable travelers plan their week to be at the Curtis Cafe for lunch on Tuesdays for chicken and noodle day.  Have a bowl or have it as a meal.  It's your choice.  In either case, the noodles are made on-site from scratch.

Another area favorite is the cinnamon rolls made early on Wednesday mornings.  Get there early for your share.  Pies are all homemade; the owner's recommendation for the best pie is the Triple Chocolate Cream pie and the Cinnamon Cream pie.  This writer likes the Strawberry Rhubarb.  All pies are also made to order for any occasion.

The cafe also features a banquet room that can accommodate up to 130 people with prior arrangements.

If you visit the cafe, please bring cash or check; plastic isn't worth anything here.  When looking for a good meal, fantastic deserts and interesting atmosphere, all the pieces come together at the Curtis Cafe, referred to by the Wichita Eagle as the Jigsaw Puzzle Capital of Kansas.
