Smith Center in the 1940's
Get Smith Center!Smith Center in its heyday! It has kept it's charm. Being located halfway between Colorado and Missouri on U.S. 36 makes us a great place to stop, get a good meal and spend the night.
We are known as the Home of the Redmen and were highlighted by Joe Drape author and reporter for the New York Times. Our Boys: A Perfect Season on the Plains with The Smith Center Redmen, the 2009 edition of the book written by Joe says we are a friendly town, successful in winning football games and that we are a proud community and build character in young people.
If you are traveling through on U.S. 36 in the fall the the football stadium is located at the east edge of town. You will see the lights on Friday nights. We have a BBQ tailgate at all home games and everyone is welcome. Old Settlers Day is a special event held Labor Day weekend every year. There is a parade, the Prairie Dog Saloon, food vendors and fun for all ages. Our community, history and cuisine offer the "explorer" places to see, eat and sleep.
