Veteran's Memorial at the Smith County Memorial Hospital was dedicated with an impressive ceremony June 3, 1951 along with the new hospital.
Members of the American Legion posts of the county and the Veterans of Foreign Wars dedicated the plaque on the northwest end of the hospital in memory of their comrades of this county who made the supreme sacrifice in WWII. The high school band provided the music and a firing squad gave a three-volley salute. Then they all moved to the west side of the hospital for the building dedication ceremonies.
