White Eagle Gas Station /Gilday Gas Station

Address: 5th & Holiday Streets
Osage City, KS

About this Exploration:

The White Eagle Gas Station was facing destruction, which caused a group of concerned citizens to jump into action!  The Osage City Historical Society was formed and thus began the saving of the historical gas station.    Approximately 15 years have passed.    The station is once again looking a bit shabby.   As of this time, April 2013,   grant application is being prepared for submittal to the Osage County Trust Fund.  If a grant is received, the roof and facia will be replaced.
The station was built in the 1920's.  In its heyday, the station had serviced  lots of traffic on what was then Highway 31 (now Holliday Street).    By the mid to late 1990's the station was on the city's  list for demolition.   A group of locals who are interested in history, saved the station with hard, dirty work clearing the debris, painting, locating and placing a cement White Eagle on the concrete pedestal that remained on the corner of the lot.
By 1998, articles had appeared showcasing the station  in the Topeka Capital-Journal, the Kansas Oil Marketer magazine, the local Osage County Herald.    This introduced the station and Osage City to the readers.
