The McPherson Opera House was saved from destruction in 1986 by the McPherson Opera House Preservation Company (now the McPherson Opera House Company). On the National Register of Historic Places, the Opera House is considered "one of the best examples of opera house architecture in Kansas." When it opened, the opera house attracted touring opera companies, vaudeville performers and even presidential candidate William Jennings Bryan. The restoration of the exterior and rehabilitation of the commercial portion and the auditorium of the Opera House are complete. A full schedule of live shows is available on the web site.
