The Marion County Museum was opened to the public during the Old Settlers Centennial Celebration in August, 1961.  The Centennial Time Capsule was sealed and dedicated.  The child’s burial vault contains bits of treasure representing the first 100 years in Marion.  The museum is the former Baptist church built in 1882 and located at the northeast corner of the city park on 623 East Main. 

 

It seems there are always fun things going on in the museum.  A new addition is the Santa Fe Trail mystery box. Visitors stick their hands in holes and guess the object inside.  Each item is an object important to riders on the Santa Fe Trail.  There are many trail artifacts on display.
