Carl A. Swensson was only 22 years old when he arrived to become the second pastor of Lindsborg. In the pioneer years of 1879-1904 Dr. Swensson provided dynamic and truly amazing church, community, and educational leadership. Bethany College was founded by Rev. Dr. Carl Aaron Swensson in the sacristy of Bethany Lutheran Church on October 15, 1881. He also founded the Lindsborg Oratorio Society in 1886 and the first Lindsborg Messiah renditions were presented in March 1882 to become an internationally known Lindsborg tradition. A statue in his honor resides on the Bethany College Campus in front of Presser Hall.
