Email Address: lcoc137@sbcglobal.net About this Exploration:  The Saline River has cut a wide and beautiful valley across Lincoln County. Rolling hills, rich farmlands, and thick woods cover the countryside. Nestled in the rolling Smoky Hills are numerous homes, barns, and fences built over a century ago by settlers using the stone found just under the soil's surface. There were few trees so the limestone was the resource of survival.  Tours are given at the Vonada Stone
Company where
they still use the feather and wedge method to split the rock in the
limestone quarry. Buildings line main streets, miles and miles of fence posts, farmsteads, and bridges bear the identity of Post Rock Country. Spillman Creek Bridge (pictured top left) is located 8 miles north of Sylvan Grove. |
