Cemeteries of LecomptonAddress:
PO Box 68
Email Address: lanemuseum@aol.com About this Exploration: This book was published by the Lecompton Historical Society and contains a census of eight organized cemeteries and over 20 family cemeteries and burials in Lecompton and Kawaka Townships in Douglas County, Kansas. In addition to the name, birth and death date and lot location of the burial, the book contains the names of the spouse and/or parents of the deceased, whenever it was possible to obtain.
The 73-page book summarizes more than 40 years of research by local historian, Iona Herschell Spencer. Elsie Middleton assisted with research and data compilation. The two spent countless hours researching to include not only the area's main cemeteries, but also its small family burials plots and random grave sites. The research is also on file at the museum.
The book is available at the Territorial Capital Museum in Lecompton or at the Tool Barn in Big Springs, Kansas for $10 each or $13.75, if mail delivery is desired. All proceeds go to the Lecompton Historical Society. Send check or money order for $13.75 which includes tax and postage to Lecompton Historical Society, P.O. Box 68, Lecompton, KS 66050.
