Safe Harbor Prison Dogs ProgramAddress:
301 E. Kansas Avenue
About this Exploration: On August 13, 2004, the first group of rescued dogs came to the Lansing Correctional Facility as part of the Safe Harbor Prison Dogs Program. Safe Harbor rescues dogs from high kill shelters across the Midwest and brings them to the prison. Approximately 100 inmates socialize and train the dogs to get them ready for adoption. It is a mutally beneficial relationship between the dogs and inmates.
The civilian members of the program bring the dogs to Petsmart 15200 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Shawnee, KS on Saturdays for adoption. If you are interested in a certain dog please contact Safe Harbor to arrange a meeting. Photo courtesy of the Lansing Correctional Facility. |
