The Vault Creamery and Bake ShopAddress:
921 Main Street
Email Address: thevaultcreameryandbakeshop@gmail.com About this Exploration: The Vault Creamery's story begins with Tim and Amy Isham, who restored the 1902 Leonard Brick Building to its early magnificence about 2006 and installed an ice cream shop, The Vault Creamery.
The building's story begins much earlier. Thomas and Kate Leonard built their first building at this site in 1889, but it burned to the ground. Leonards didn't give up and they rebuilt. Building was constructed on the first lot sold in Goodland, although it wasn't the first building in town.
The creamery gets its name from the original fireproof 20-inch thick vault once used to store all of Sherman County's property abstracts at Thomas Leonard's early-day real estate office. Hard-dipped ice cream cans and a soft serve machine now stand in the vault ready to feed delighted customers.
Brenda Starr took over the creamery in 2013 and added baked goods to the sweet delights available at the store. She added "Bake Shop" to the creamery's name to reflect this menu addition. Now cakes, cupcakes, sweet rolls and soft pretzels only start the list of sweets available at The Vault. To enjoy both bakery and ice cream shop, eat a cupcake sundae or ice cream cake. Or try one of their delightful Twisters made of ice cream and toppings.
Thirsty? Try a drink from the soda fountain.
To eat, sit at the vintage bar, at tables inside or wrought iron tables outside. Or take your order to go. The Vault also offers custom baked goods for any occasion or just because.
Bathroom is at the rear. On your way down the hall, examine the photos on the wall to see the building in its past. While in the bathroom, make sure to check out the adult and children's size toilets.
Keep your plastic in your wallet, because The Vault takes only cash or local checks. When the weather is hot, avoid pushing on the metal plate on the door. Push on the wood instead and avoid the hot metal.
Enjoy a terrific taste sensation at The Vault Creamery and Bake Shop! Open Monday-Saturday 2-9 p.m. Mountain Time.
Black Bird Gallery's original art and antiques is next door to the north. The Art Deco splendor of United Telephone Building is only a few steps away to the south. Across the street is the "History of the Opera House" mural. One block south stands the old First National Bank Building, site of the armed climax to the County Seat Fight.
