Email Address: fredoniakschamber@centurylink.net About this Exploration: 303 N. 8th Street - This Queen Anne Style home was built in 1895 for the family of Alexander C. Flack by local contractor Joe Hollis according to Barbara Beal Hollis. The Flack family occupied this home until about 1977. The house has been restored to its original color and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in about 1990 by its present owners. The decorative filigree in the double door corners inside remains in its original place and is probably one of the very few to retain that mark of Victorian decoration.
832 Madison - This Victorian home placed far back on its lot was the pride and joy of Dr. W.S. Cady when he built it in 1904. It was pictured in several historical journals of the period. This house is different from most large Victorian homes in that there is not an entry hall or vestibule at the front door. When carriages arrived with guests, the circular drive on the west stopped at the entry door that went directly into the dining room. The sweeping staircase on the west end of the living room is very elegant with its broad landing under the half-round window. This large house has few rooms compared to the many small ones of most Victorian era homes.
