The Harvey House in Florence was originally known as the Clifton Hotel and was located in a beautiful wooded area south of the railroad tracks.

Some of the Harvey House is still intact. The original "pass through" window used in the late 1880's in the butlers pantry still exists. The dining room kitchen and three rooms in the apartment on the first floor are still the same.

 

The Harvey Girls were dressed in black with white aprons. You can still be served today by  Harvey House Girls if your group schedules a meal here.

The traditional menu consists of roast beef, asparagus, mashed potatoes, homemade bread, a lovely peach dessert, relish plate and fruits and cheese. This is all done in the Fred Harvey way.

 

The Harvey House Museum is open by appointment by calling 620.878.4296 at the city office. Work is underway to keep the museum open 30 hours per week.
