In 1944 Charles Cook began pondering what could be done with a ditch of clay he discovered just southeast of Concordia.   In 1946, Cloud Ceramics began producing top quality, fine-face bricks for architectural and residential construction that far exceed both specifications and expectations.  Today they mine five different colors of clay from the same Dakota clay field  including the beautiful burgundy brick used on the Whole Wall Mural. 

In 2009 they were named a finalist in the 8 Wonders of Kansas Commerce contest.
